Return To Wonderland

In much of my recent photography, I constantly use 'Wonderland' as a metaphor for the city I live in, San Francisco.

'Return To Wonderland' is a special title I'd been waiting to use for that perfect photo that came along when I came back. I feel that this is it. It marks the beginning of a new year for me, looking out to a better future. It marks the end of my hiatus that I was on for almost a month. It's my return. And in my own personal life, I am returning to a better, more sane and simpler lifestyle. Not one that is shadowed by misery, self-inflicted pain, and all around darkness.

I once thought that coming back to the city where I spent a very dark time of my life in would be a horrible choice. I realize that I'm the one making the choices about whether or not I will correct the errors I have made in the past, and I'm the only one that can look out to the future and make it a better one.

This photo is really a big tribute to the great Elliott Erwitt, who is my great photography inspiration. The dark, black and white classic look this photo has is quite reminiscent of his work which I am in love with. It's certainly a more 'grown-up' piece for me.
